Composting and Recycling

One third of what New Yorkers throw away is yard waste and food scraps, also known as organics.

Department of Sanitation provides free organics collection services to all buildings in Manhattan and the South Bronx (and elsewhere in the city in some cases), which can help eliminate rats and roaches from your buildings, while creating compost or renewable energy.

Just like traditional recycling of paper, cardboard, metal, glass and plastic, residents separate these items and put them in brown bins that are provided for free.

This class will include the benefits of food scrap recycling and tips for composting in your building, and well as a refresher on how to recycle.
