Benefits of Composting

Come learn about composting!

One third of what New Yorkers throw away is yard waste and food scraps, also known as organics.

Department of Sanitation now provides free organics collection services in the South Bronx (and elsewhere in the city in some cases), which can help eliminate rats and roaches from your kitchens while creating compost or renewable energy.

Just like traditional recycling of paper, cardboard, metal, glass and plastic, residents separate these items and put them in brown bins that are provided for free.

Please call Larissa Ho at 646-430-3522 or email lho@grownyc.org to sign up to receive a brown bin for your building or to ask any questions!
